Metal balconies in Dallas and Carrollton

Horizontal-bar and cable metal railing for balconies, porches and covered patios, plus custom iron gates.

What an outdoor edge asks of a railing

A balcony or porch rail lives outside, and it does a harder job than the one on your staircase. It sits at the edge of a drop, it gets leaned on, and it is in the weather all year. That is why the posts, the way they are fastened and the metal finish deserve real attention before anyone picks a style.

If your current rail has a loose post or a section that moves when you push it, that is worth fixing before the next season of use. Send Marlon a photo of the balcony edge to (469) 727-3208. He will talk through what he sees and give you a quote, and the estimate costs nothing.

Horizontal bars, cable and custom gates

Mac Stairs builds horizontal-bar and cable metal railing for balconies, porches and covered patios. Horizontal bars read as a clean dark grid against concrete or brick, and they hold a long balcony edge in one straight line. Cable keeps the line thinner, so a covered patio still looks out at the yard instead of at a fence of metal.

The same crew builds custom gates. Amy Erickson had Marlon make one as well, on top of the stair work, and said so in the review. That is the kind of job where a measured, one-off piece beats an off-the-shelf panel that never quite fits the opening. Gates and rails can be matched so they read as one set.

Open view or more privacy

The first decision is how much you want to see through. Cable and wide-set bars keep the view open. Closer bars, or a decorative iron panel set into the run, give more privacy and a stronger pattern. There is no wrong answer, only what suits the house and how the space gets used.

Then think about how the balcony meets the rest of the home. A railing outside can echo the iron balusters inside, which pulls the two together. If the interior stairs are on your list too, look at railing installation and modern stairs. B.R. Baumann liked that Marlon explained the process and the options, and he does the same for balconies.

He built a custom gate for us as well. Highly recommend! Amy Erickson, customer review.

Balcony rails often travel with other work. See railing installation for stairs and decks, or modern stairs for the horizontal-bar look inside the house.
